WAHL - Former Coal Dealer Found Dead in Garage - William E. Wahl, aged 61, of 318 East Ninth street, former coal dealer and prominent Mishawakan was found dead from the effects of carbon monoxide gas in the garage in the rear of his home at 9:50 o'clock this morning. Coroner B.J. Bolka was called to investigate. Smoke coming from the garage was noticed by Mrs. Mary Hutsebout, 707 South Union street, a neighbor. She sent her children into the garage to unlock the double doors and ran to the grocery store of Dewey Hantz, 709 South Union street, for help. Police were notified. Mr. Wahl was found dead on the floor. A theory was advanced by his surviving son, Kenneth Wahl, 926 South 21st street, South Bend, that the father had driven his car into the garage, left the motor running while he closed the double door, planning to shut off the motor and leave the garage by a side door. Mr. Wahl's wife died a year ago. From 1919 to 1933 he worked at intervals for the Mishawaka Rubber and Woolen Manufacturing company and retired last October. Before that he had been a coal dealer. He was born in Mishawaka, May 29, 1873. The body was taken to Sprague's mortuary.
