(1899) BROKAW, JAMES G., is engaged in general farming in section 18 in Hamilton township. He is careful, frugal and successful. He is the son of Alfred V. and Ruth J. (Ridgeway) Brokaw, both natives of Sullivan county. The father was the son of Isaac Brokaw, who established himself in this locality in 1816. The mother was the daughter of Samuel Ridgeway, an early settler. The parents of the subject of our sketch live in Gill township, honored and respected by all who know them. James G. Brokaw was in 1865 in Gill township; he has since lived there, devoting his life to the farm. He married Clara Springer, daughter of John D. Springer, in 1888; he settled on his farm in 1890, erecting the present buildings thereon. They were blessed with two children, Virgil S. and Evandalen Brokaw. All are members of the Methodist church. Additional Comments: Hamilton Twp. Extracted from: AN ILLUSTRATED Standard Atlas OF Sullivan County, INDIANA.
