(1899) HOKE, WM. F., is living and prospering on the farm on which the old homestead is located in Haddon Township. He was born there August 8, 1844; he was married December 18, 1873, to Virginia B. Turner, a daughter of Thomas K. and Lucy (Gibson) Turner, who came to Sullivan County in 1854. The father of Mrs. Hoke died September 9, 1898, the mother survives. They raised six children: Mary J. Wells, Mrs. Hoke, Anna E. Cleveland, Laura Willis, Alice Snider and Henry. Jacob Hoke, the father of the subject of our sketch, was a native of Jefferson County, Ky. His mother was Rosie (Brenttinger) Hoke, also a native of Kentucky. They were married in 1829 and came to Sullivan County in the spring of 1830, settling in Haddon Township. Here they cleared away the Wilderness and developed an extensively improved farm. He died on his farm January 25, 1875, she died December 15, 1875. They raised seven children: Jacob F., John A., Wm. F., Rich A. Hoke, living; Sarah E. Stinsil and Charles W. Hoke are dead. One son, Jacob F. Hoke, was a soldier in the civil war, serving with credit in the union army. The subject of our sketch is the father of eight children: Ella F. Nash, Jacob F., Bessie L., Annie B., William O., Rosa Lillian, Thomas H. and Lulu Hoke, the latter being twins. Mr. Hoke is engaged exclusively in farming. He has been both road supervisor and school director. Additional Comments: Haddon Twp.
