(1899) WALTERS, WM. P., of Paxton, Ind., is one of the prominent farmers of Haddon Township. He is engaged extensively in grain buying and stock raising. He platted the original town of Paxton. Mr. Walters is a native of Jessamine County, Ky., first seeing the light of day there August 14, 1824. He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Lamb) Walters, who came to Sullivan County in 1831 and settled in this township. The father died in 1839, the mother following in 1860. Mr. Walters began farming near Sullivan, though remained here but a short time, going to Haddon Township in 1860. He was married November 2, 1851, to Sarah Anderson. His second marriage took place October 10, 1863, to Nancy E. Pirttle, who died some years later. They had three children: Edna, Carl and Hazel. Mr. Walters is a member of the Christian Church; politically he is a Democrat. He is also a member of the A. F. and A. M. Additional Comments: Haddon Twp.
