SWITZERLAND COUNTY, INDIANA WILLS Book 1, p. 224 Last Will and testament of Joel Copher State of Indiana Switzerland County SS Be it remembered that on the 4th day of September 1843 at the office of the clerk of the Probate Court of Said County personally came Sally Copher the Executrix appointed in the last will and testament of Joel Copher Decd and produced said will and prayed to have the same proved and admited to record which accordingly is done and the Said will and proo(f) therof is in the words and figures following to wit. The following Witnesseth that I Joel Copher Senr of Switzerland County and State of Indiana being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory have come to this my determination of Settling my earthly Concerns and World business and do hereby declare the following my last will and testament........... First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sally Copher the farm on which I now live it being the tract of land I purchased of Simpson L. Beckley Containing one hundred and Sixty five acres, and five hundred dollars in notes Likewise two hundred and fifty dollars worth of household and kitchen furniture to have and to hold So long as She Shall remain my widow... Second I give and Bequeath unto my two Eldest Sons Bayles Copher and George Copher, what they have already received of me which amounts to three hundred and thirty three Dollars each and after the rest of my heirs Viz. Joel L. Copher Milley Copher Henry Copher Jesse Copher Eliner p. 225 Copher and John F. Copher receives a equal portion with the above named Bayles Copher and George Copher heirs of the aforesaid Joel Copher Senr and after all my Just and lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid, the residue of my Estate Shall be Equally divided between my above named Children to wit, Bayles Copher, George Copher, Joel Copher, Joel L. Copher, Milley Copher Henry Copher Jesse Copher Elen Copher & John F. Copher my heirs.... And lastly I ordain and appoint my wife Sally Copher and my Son George Copher Joint Executors of this my last will & Testament with full power and authority to Carry the Same into full effect. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 24th day of July one thousand Eight hundred and Forty Three Joel Copher (Seal) Signed in presence of Anthony K. Brinson a man of lawful age, who after being duly p.226 Sworn upon his oath deponith and Saith that he was personally present when Joel Copher, the Testator Signed the foregoing will and openly and publicly declared the Same to be his true last will and testament. That he this deponent Signed his name as a witness to said will in the presence of the Said Testator and at his request.
