At the age of ten, he came with his parents to Randolph County, Ind., while it was yet a forest; he assisted his father in redeeming from the forest a good home from land entered in 1837; his education was obtained from the log cabin schoolhouse; he began farming in 1848, on rented land, and in the fall of 1852 came to this county, locating on the farm where he now lives; he has been industrious and economical, and a good home is the result. Mr. Ayers was married in November, 1847, to Miss Desira Gist, of Randolph County, Ind. She died in 1854, leaving two sons, William and Silas. March 17, 1855, he married Miss Mary A. Adams, of Marion County, Ind. This union has been blessed with nine children, five of whom are living-Catharine, Edith Thena, Thomas E., Letitia and Maryetta. Mr. Ayers and wife are members of the Christian Church; he is a Republican in politics, and has held some of the minor offices of the township; he is one of our pioneer citizens, and is ever ready to encourage public improvements.
