On the breaking-out of the Mexican war, being then twenty years of age, he was commissioned in the United States Army as First Lieutenant, and was with Gen. Scott in his campaign to the City of Mexico. He was married, April 1, 1850, to Miss Mary Cooper, daughter of James Cooper; he entered into the milling business, which he continued to follow until his death. After pursuing his business in the town of Brookville and Connorsville, he, in 1875, came to Tipton, where he remained until his decease, August 30, 1879. Politically, he was a Republican, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church; he was temperate in all respects; he left a widow, Mrs. Mary Forrer, born in 1825, and two children, one son and one daughter, viz., De Orville and Louisa.
