He then emigrated to America and located in Boston, where he worked in a factory about seven years. In 1852, he went to California and engaged in mining. He had but $23 when he arrived in California, and when he came away, in 1855, he had saved $2,000. He then came to Tipton County, Ind., spent a short time in buying cattle, and subsequently purchased a farm of 160 acres, on which he has since resided. His farm is well drained, with 130 acres under cultivation. He raises grain and stock, and is a successful farmer. Mr. Singleton was married, March 30, 1856, in Tipton County, to Miss Elizabeth Hall, daughter of Hudson Hall. They have four children living-John H., James M., Ida and Nannie C.
