He was reared in Butler County, Ohio, and engaged by the month working on a farm. In 1853, he came to Decatur County, where he followed agricultural pursuits until October, 1862, when he removed to Tipton County, Ind., and located on eighty acres of timbered land. He now owns 176 acres of good land, with 120 acres under cultivation; he raises about fifty bushels of corn and fifteen bushels of wheat per acre; his land is well drained, has good outbuildings, and a first-class residence; he raises a fair amount of both hogs and cattle. Mr. Wolverton was married, November 22, 1855, in Decatur County, Ind., to Miss Corlinda A. Barr, who died November 26, 1856, leaving one child living, Joseph W. Mr. Wolverton was next married, June 24, 1857, to Miss Martha Barr. They have four children living- Axie A., Wilbur W., Mattie L. and Annie; he has three children deceased-Henry F., Levi S. and John N. The latter died at the age of sixteen years.
