All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/in/infiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Herma Bessinger hbessinger@hotmail.com and Herma Bessinger September 1, 2007, 2:14 pm Pension Request War Of 1812 State of Indiana County of Washington On this 22nd day of March AD 1855, personally appear before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Henry Green aged about sixty-three years, a resident of Washington County, Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Henry Green who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Samuel Ogle in the Maryland Militia in the Regiment commanded by Colonel _________ Ragan as he thinks in the War declared by the United States against Great Britain on the 18th day of June 1812, that he volunteered in Fredrick County, in the State of Maryland sometime in the fall of 1813 and was called into active service sometime in the succeeding Spring and continued in active service until discharged on account of sickness incurred in said service, that he also the identical Henry Green who was Orderly Sergeant in the Company of Maryland Militia commanded by Captain John Gault in the Regiment commanded by Colonel __________ in said war, that he was drafted in Frederick County in the State of Maryland about the latter part of August of 1814 for the term of three months and continued in active service in said war in said last Company for three months and was honorably discharged at Baltimore in the State of Maryland at the expiration of said term which will appear by the Muster Rolls of said companies. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the Act providing additional Bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the Military Service of the United States approved march 3rd 1855 and refers to his former application under the Act of September 28th 1850 upon which he obtained a warrant for forty acres, the No of which he cannot recollect and which he has legally disposed of and cannot now return. He further declares that he has not received any Bounty Land under any Act of Congress or made any other application than the one above referred to under the Act of September 28th 1850 upon which he obtained Land Warrant for forty acres and the one now presented. Signed: Henry Green Sworn to and subscribed the day and year above written and I hereby certify that I believe Henry Green who is now present to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated and that I have no interest in his claim and am not concerned in its prosecution. State of Indiana } County of Washington } Personally appeared John Colglazier and George Starbuck who being duly sworn according to law depose and say that they are residents of said Washington County, Indiana, and that they were present and saw Henry Green sign his name to the foregoing declaration and from their personal acquaintance with him they believe him to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and has received a warrant therefore that he is the age above stated and they are not interested in said claim. Birdson whose official signature appears to the foregoing declaration and affidavits and before whom the same appears to have been sworn to is and was at the time of signing the same was acting Justice of Peace in and for said County duly commissioned and qualified and as said full faith and credit are due to all his official acts and that his signature thereto as genuine. DePauw, Clk ******************************************** US Census 1870 shows that Henry Green Age 77 is living with Phillip Job Green in Salem Township, Washington County, Indiana. ******************************************** State of Indiana County of Washington On this 19th day of April AD One thousand eight hundred seventy-one personally appeared before me, John J. Hardin, Clerk of the Washington Circuit Court, a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Henry Green, aged 79 years, a resident of Washington Township, Washington County, and State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is not married, that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States in the War of 1812, that he is the identical Henry Green who was drafted in Captain John Gault's Company, Col. Stemple's Regiment at Fredrick County, Maryland on the ___ day of August 1814, that he was stationed in Chinicassia (?) Hills entrenchments at Baltimore, rained a great deal, mud and water almost knee deep. Maj. Eichelberger was the Major - a that he at no time during the late Rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enemies of the government giving them aid or comfort or exercised the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority in hostility to the United States, and that he supports the Constitution of the United States, that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act, that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act approved February 14th, 1871 and he hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation James Baynes of Salem, Indiana, his true lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued that his post office is at Salem, County of Washington, State of Indiana. Henderson of Washington County, State of Indiana persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw Henry Green write his name to the foregoing declaration, that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did he adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government giving them aid or comfort and that they have no interest in (can't read - probably "the prosecution of this claim") and that he is the identical man he represents himself to be, that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did he adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government giving them aid or comfort and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
