His father died when he was three years old, after which he lived with his aunt, with whom he came to the United States. They went to Lancaster County, Pa., where he remained till he reached the age of maturity, when he came to Wayne County, Ind. He returned to Lancaster County, Pa., and in June, 1858, was married to Mary Ann Illges, when he came to Wayne County and bought a farm of eighty acres, where his wife died in 1858. Jan. 29, 1860, he was married to Anna Herr, a native of Lancaster County, Pa., a daughter of Christian and Elizabeth (Shank) Herr, who came to Wayne County, Ind., in an early day, where the father died March 12, 1875 and the mother three years later. They were the parents of twelve children, of whom six are still living. To Mr. and Mrs. Graver were born five children---Elizabeth H., wife of Andrew K. Zeigler; Mary E., wife of Moses E. Myers; Amanda G., Anna G. and Christian H. Mr. Graver was thrown from a wagon and received injuries which caused his death after three days of intense suffering, Aug. 3, 1881. He was one of the most successful stock-raisers in the township, making a specialty of cattle and hogs. He had at his death a valuable farm of 400 acres, where his widow now resides in a large two-story frame dwelling.
