In 1823 his father moved his family to Ohio, and in the spring of 1824 he moved to Jackson Township, Wayne Co., Ind. Samuel Heiny bought eighty acres, where he followed farming till 1843, when he received a kick from a horse, which caused instant death. His wife survived him till 1863. Our subject learned the blacksmith's trade, which he followed about forty years. In 1862 he retired from active business, and moved on his farm, then containing sixty-three acres, but at present is the owner of 303 acres. He was married in 1830 to Rebecca, daughter of David Burket. They were the parents of five children, whose names are---Noah, Catherine, Jacob, Leonard and Solomon. Mrs. Heiny died Aug. 26, 1863.
