Wesley S. Jordan was born near Economy, Wayne Co., Ind., April 8, 1846. He was reared on the home farm and attended the common school, after which he spent several terms at Asbury University, Greencastle, Ind. He then went to Delaware and entered the Ohio Wesleyan University, which he attended two years. After completing his education he taught school, and was Principal of the schools at Economy one year, when he entered the ministry, and in 1872 was appointed by conference to take charge of the Methodist Episcopal church at St. Paul, Ind.; then at Fairfield, Laurel and Kent, when his health failed him and he was obliged to retire from the ministry. During his connection with the church he was a most active worker, and nearly 200 persons were added to the church. During his stay in Kansas he took an active part in the prohibition amendment. In the summer of 1880 he returned to Wayne County and purchased the Wilson farm, containing 261 acres of choice land, with good farm buildings, since which time he has followed farming. He was married in 1869 to Nannie L., daughter of John and Lavina McNeill, of New Richmond, Ohio. They have three children---Stella B. G., Horace and Omar. Our subject's father, George McClelland Jordan, was born in Wayne County, Ind., April 26, 1813, a son of William and Mary (McClelland) Jordan, natives of Pennsylvania, the former a soldier in the war of 1812. Our subject's mother, Barsheba R. Pollard, was a native of Lexington, Ky. and was married in Wayne County, Ind., to George McC. Jordan. They were the parents of six children, four still living.
