King was born in Wayne County, Ind., Nov. 10, 1848, a son of Lorenzo D. and Betsey (Way) King, and a grandson of Jesse King. His father came to Wayne County with his parents when nineteen years of age, in 1824. He was married in 1827 to Betsey, daughter of Seth and Sarah (Cranor) Way. Seth Way settled in Williamsburg in 1810, and while living in the block-house, Aug. 2, 1812, Betsey was born. She is still living, and attends to her own house. She is the mother of eleven children---Seth, Rebecca, William, Hannah A., Lydia E., Absalom, Sarah, Joseph L., Andrew J., Margaret E. and an infant, unnamed. Joseph L. King grew to manhood on his father's farm, receiving a fair business education. He was married in 1870 to Ollie, daughter of Walter G. and Martha (Jeffries) Stephens. Mrs. King was born in Wayne County, Ind., in 1849, and received a liberal education. Mr. and Mrs. King have three children---Lizzie J., Mary G. and Nora Z. They are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. King has a fine farm of ninety-eight acres on Nolan's Fork.
