He was reared on a farm, but when twenty years of age commenced learning the carpenter's trade. He has worked at his trade faithfully, and is now one of the principal contractors of Centreville and vicinity. In August, 1851, Mr. Maudlin was married to Betsey A., daughter of Andrew Meredith, of Wayne County. They have two children---James A., and Sarah A., wife of Walter S. Commons. Mr. Maudlin is Permanent Secretary and is one of the Trustees of Hoosier Lodge, No. 23, I.O.O.F., and Treasurer of Hebron Encampment, No. 8, I.O.O.F. In religious faith he is a Friend. He is the Republican nominee for County Commissioner in the middle district.
