Sprigg was born March 26, 1812, in Frederick County, Md., where he resided until he was twenty-two years of age. He then resided four years in Ohio, and in 1844 came to Cambridge City, Ind., where he was engaged in the grocery trade three years. He then disposed of his stock, and soon after, in the fall of 1849, he was elected Justice of the Peace, which office he has held continuously by re-election, performing his duties in a way satisfactory to his constituents. He was married in 1846 to Maria, daughter of Samuel Robertson, of Preble County, Ohio. They had one daughter---Annie M., who died when about three years of age. Mr. Sprigg has been a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows fraternities for many years. He is now in his seventy-second year, but still attends to the duties of his office, and is highly esteemed by all who know him.
