He lived on a farm till he was fifteen years of age, when he began working in a woolen mill, where he continued some eight years, during which time he devoted his leisure hours to reading medicine. He then began to practice medicine, and soon after moved to Wayne County, Ind., locating near East Germantown, on Green's Fork, where he followed his profession for over forty years, doing a large and 1ucrative business. He has added to his farm since he first came here, which now contains 160 acres of valuable land. He devotes the greater part of his time to agricultural pursuits, but still practices his profession. He was married in 1844, to Sarah A., daughter of Michael J. Snyder, of Union County, Ind. They have had three children, two still living---Rolando G. and Ida. J., wife of Charles Jameson, now living in Marion, Ind. Dr. Swallow is a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity and belongs to Milton Lodge.
