Thornburgh, farmer and stock-raiser, was born Jan. 24, 1846, in Perry Township, Wayne Co., Ind., eldest son of Elvin and Damaris (Locke) Thornburgh. He received a common-school education, residing on the home farm till Sept. 21, 1864, when he was married to Sarah F., daughter of George and Eliza (Francisca) Foland. She was born in Preble County, Ohio, and came to Wayne County, Ind., with her parents when a child. Mr. and Mrs. Thornburgh have two children---Emma L. and Bertha L. After his marriage he lived two years in Dalton Township, Wayne County, and from there moved to Perry Township, where he resided eight years. He then resided in Henry County, Ind., seven years, and in 1881 returned, to the old homestead in Perry Township, where he has 160 acres of well-cultivated land. He and his wife are members of the United Brethren church.
