He was the third child of Robert L. Cornthwaite and Mary Good Cornthwaite. When he was five years old the family moved to a farm about five miles southeast of Milton, Indiana. On October 1, 1879, he was united in marriage to Clara Kimmel, daughter of Wm. and Vashti Kimmel, pioneer residents of Milton. This union was blessed by four children, Arthur, Lenna, who died in 1927, Zoa and Lowell. From these four children have descended seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In the year 1898 he forsook the farm and set up a blacksmith shop beside the old Whitewater canal in Cambridge City. In this business he was successful and continued this trade until a few years ago, when failing health caused him to retire. He is mourned by many friends who knew him as Squire and a grand old man. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. J. C. Smith in charge. Burial in Riverside cemetery.
