The following article appeared in the Bluffton, Indiana newspaper on January 18,1917. ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING FATAL TO ADELMA FISHER Vincennes, Ind. Jan 18--Adelma Fisher died in a hospital here today after lying unconsciuos for a long time. The remains have been shipped to his home in Petroleum, Wells County. Chauncey Hockenberry, although held not responsible for Fisher's death, is grief stricken. Other dispatches received here by relatives of the unfortunate young man state that he passed away at 3 o'clock this morning and that the body will arrive in Keystone over the L.E.&W. this evening, and will be removed to his father's home, southeast of Petroleum. No arrangements have been made for the funeral. The story of Fisher's death was told in yesterday's dispatches to the News. While on his way to work with a friend, Chauncey Hockenberry, Fisher and his companion were examining a revolver belonging to Hockenberry. They thought that the weapon was not loaded but it was, and when it was accidentally discharged Fisher sustained a wound in the abdomen which rendered his chance of recovery slight from the first. His father went to his bedside on Tuesday, the shooting having occurred on Monday evening. Mr. Fisher was born and raised in Wells County. His parents are Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Dye) Fisher and he was born in Nottingham township on April 14, 1890-. He had worked in the oil fields at several times and went to take his late position at Petrolia, near Bridgeport eight months ago. The fatal shooting occurred near Petrolia. Both parents survive with two brothers and a sister namely: Ernest Fisher, at home; Clyde Fisher at Freesport, LA; and Mrs. Charles Settle, residing a mile north of Phoenix, in this county.
