Iola, June 6th, 1860 FRIEND THACHER: The citizens of Allen county propose celebrating the Glorious Fourth in the "good old way," at Iola, and we would extend a general invitation to the good people of Kansas and "the rest of mankind" to come and enjoy it with us. You can count on a tip-top oration, fine music, toasts, speeches, &c. Those blessed with appetites will have a good opportunity to gratify to the extent of their corporosity. The 'great ox of course is to be roasted,' and the ladies will furnish a table adapted to the occasion. The whole affair is to be conducted by the bachelors, kindly assisted by the ladies. By the way, Allen county will show on that occasion prettier girls, and more of them, than can be found in any other interior county in the Territory. Come one, come all! Bring your families, you that have them; you that have none, do the next best thing. The thing is free--free as our own prairie winds. Yours, C. P.
