Degan, 58, for more than 20 years an Atchison real estate and insurance man and previously with the Locomotive Finished Material Co., many years, died at St John's hospital, Leavenworth, at 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. His death was due to pernicious anemia. Funeral services will be held at St. Benedict's chruch Friday morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be in Mt Calvary cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening at the Harouff & Buis service chapel. The body will be taken to the residence at 522 Riley Thursday afternoon and the rosary will be recited there at 8 o'clock Thursday evening. BORN IN ATCHISON Mr. Degan was born in Atchison June 4, 1886, and lived his entire life in his native city. His parents were Lawrence and Mary Degan, and his father, a livestock buyer in Atchison many years, was widely known as Larry Degan. David I. Degan attended St. Louis college in Atchison and graduated from Christian Brothers college, St. Joseph. He married Miss Florence R. Jochems June 9, 1915. He is survived by his wife and three children Lt (jg) David A. Degan of the navy, Sister Mary Pauline of the Sisters of Charity, Leavenworth, and Mrs. George I. Walsh, 824 North Third, Atchison. Three brothers preceded him in death: Capt. Owen Degan whose death occurred during World War I while he was serving as chaplain at the Soldier's Home at Leavenworth; Larry who died while attending St Benedict's college and Joseph Degan of Chicago. David I. Degan was a Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in St. Benedict's church, of which he was a life-long member. Pallbearers at the funeral services Friday will be Wirt Hetherington, Martin Schappler, Carl Henrichson, Herman Nass, Jay D. Adams and Frank Barnes.
