W. Crawford and his two sons, William D. and James F., living in the southern part of the county, were arrested on Wednesday night, on complaint of one Wallingford. The complaint alleges that they were concerned in the killing of the Booths, Smith and Corbin. Our opinion is, that the charge is trumped up, and owes its origin to spite. The Crawfords are new settlers, have taken claims and are making ever lawful effort to establish themselves in their new homes. That they should be permitted to be persecuted on the mere state of a man whose character, even here, is questionable in the extreme, is something we can not understand. The Crawfords have been taken to Augusta for examination. We shall await the result of that examination, and further developments, after which we shall publish some facts anything but flattering to certain parties.
