Hardtner, ks Barber co d. Pratt Ks Pratt co Highland Cemetery barber co The only son of Ben and Helen Parr, both deceased, Steve was born on December 19, 1944 at Hardtner. His beloved Grandparents, Gertrude Earnhart and Luther Parr were both long time residents of the Pratt and Medicine Lodge areas. As a youth, Steve was also cared for, and much loved, by Ed and Ethel Batchelder. Steve graduated Pratt High School in 1963 and attended Pratt Junior College from 1963 to 1965. Following junior college, Steve worked at The Cessna Corporation until 1967 when he went to work as a salesman for Beech-Nut / Lifesavers. That same year, Steve married Miss Nancy C. DeVault on October 8, 1967 and lived in Wichita until 1974. His only wife, Steve and Nancy were married for 20 years. In 1974 Steve returned to Pratt and went into business for himself as “Steve’s Carpet Cleaning” which he owned and operated until shortly before his death. In 1987, Steve also began a second business, “Green Acres Lawn Service, which he also operated until his death. Steve was one of the country’s most accomplished outdoorsmen. He was highly skilled in trapping, hunting, fishing, camping, tracking, game calling, reloading and lead shot smelting. He was an expert in trap and skeet shooting and won well over 100 trophies, prizes, and ribbons over the years. In addition to serving two terms as President of the Pratt Gun Club, Steve was an active member of the Pratt Elks Club, BPOE 1451, The American Legion, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, Quails Unlimited, The Nature Conservatory, the American Numismatics Society, Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society, and the North American Hunting Club. Steve was also an avid Indian artifact hunter and amateur Native American Indian historian and archaeologist. Additionally, he was a well known coin collector. His collection included many 19th century American coins and virtually all 20th Century American Coins.
