MARY'S ACADEMY Another Catholic institution that was established in 1901 was St. Mary's Academy. This academy or school was established by the Dominican Sisters, they being of the same order as those who later established the St. Rose Hospital. The school was located in the building on West Broadway formerly used by the Central Normal College and was built in 1880. The school was operated until 1909 when it closed for a time after which it was and is now being used as a school where Sisters are trained for school and hospital work. It is the intention of the Sisters to again take up the school work within the near future. During the time that the school .was operated it had a good attendance and was well conducted along modern ideas of education.
