He leaves a widow and seven children. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, burial in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery. (same page) Released From His Suffering Again has the grim reaper paid this community a visit and taken from it one of its most highly respected citizens in the personage of Barney P. Unruh, who lived with his family southeast of Pawnee Rock. At the time of his departure, which sad event occurred on Saturday morning at 3 o'clock when Mr. Unruh was 70 years, 4 months and 29 days old. At the age of 16 years he was baptised in the Mennonite church and had remained a faithful adherent to the principles that permit a passport into the realms above. He was married to Helena Dirks on Nov 8, 1870, and to this union eleven children were born, two of whom were taken in infancy, while a daughter, Miss Carrie was laid to rest two years ago. The remaining children ??? with the wife mourn his departure are Ben. B., Jacob, Henry H., ???be Siebert,Mrs. Geo Dirks of ???sburg(section of paper torn.) Misses Anna, Lizzie and Lena. Coming over from the old country in 1874, Mr. and Mrs. Unruh first settled in McPherson and later emigrated to Barton county where they had continuously resided until the separation which released the husband and father from his earthly sufferings, which had been continuous and at times most severe the past few years. The funeral services where held at the New Jerusalem church in this city on Sunday afternoon and were largely attended by the neighbors and friends who were desirious of paying a last tribute to one who had always lived an exemplary life in their midst. The services were conducted by the Reb. Benj. P. Unruh, their pastor who delivered an able sermon in memory of this man who was not only a Christian but an honorable gentleman in all that word implies. At the close of these solemn services all were permitted to look for the last time on the face of the departed; then the sad cortege moved on to our silent city. Nothing on earth is changed, only a loving husband and father is gone. Only the memory of a father is left, yet how sweet, how uplifting its influence. For after all, death is but the slipping off of the outer body. Deepest sympathy is extended the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow. CARD OF THANKS We desire to thank our neighbors and friends who have been so lavish in the assistance and words of cheer and comfort during the long illness and death of our husband and father. Also to others who contributed in any way in lessening our grief by contributions of flowers, etc., do we feel extremely grateful and we will ever cherish these acts as pleasant memories.
