He was a Civil War veteran. As you can see, his tombstone reads "I J Curtis, CO. B, 52nd ILL. INF." That is the first enlistment from Illinois. His second enlistment was from Missouri. But he died near Fulton. I'm sending a picture of the cemetery entrance, one of I J Curtis' tombstone, and one of the military section of the cemetery. It was just before Memorial Day so the flags were out. Additional Comments: Many of the military stones read "US Soldier". The cemetery is Barnesville Cemetery, Bourbon County, Kansas.
