About 23 years ago she made a public confession of Christ, uniting with the Victory Evangelical church. After moving to Fairview she united with the Reformed church where she has been a true and faithful member. The last eleven years of her life has been given in service for others, being of a sympathetic and quiet nature, her presence in the sick room was most helpful. For five years she cared for an invalid uncle, giving him the most tender and helpful care. For the last six years the care given her aged mother has been most beautiful and has caused many to remark the devotion and love between mother and daughter. On September 17, she was stricken with a nervous breakdown developing into a long and tedious fever. Her suffering at times was most intense but during all her suffering she thought of her dear old mother saying to her faithful nurse, "I am alright, see if mother is comfortable." She has recovered sufficiently to be up and around but always spoke of a severe pain in her head. Her life was one of service to others. As a daughter she was obedient and loving; as a sister she was true and affectionate; as a friend she was faithful to the end. To her Christianity was a most sacred thought and her faith and trust in the Lord was most sweet and tender. The funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, December 23 at 1:30 and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.F. Naefe. The pastor spoke words of comfort. Mrs. W.E. Randolph and D.F. Hobbs sang most beautifully, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." and "I Know My Heavenly Father Knows." two of Irene's favorite songs. The body bearers were V.R. Shintaffer, C.W. Bredahl, E.C. Geiger, W.P. Lambertson, W.E. Randolph and Frank VanDalsem. She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, four sisters and one brother, Mrs. C.W. Gray of Solomon, Mrs. James Overfield of Robinson, Mrs. John Anstey of Brookville, and Miss Anna George and Charles George of Fairview. She is also survived by an aged uncle J. N. Lyman of Fairview. The floral offerings were many and most beautiful. So amid loving friends, beautiful flowers and tears we laid her to rest. The pure white snow falling gently on her casket was no purer than the sweet soul within. How she will be missed in home and among those who loved her best. Oh, the pitty of it and the aching hearts.--Cont.
