Mary was a familiar figure to residents of this community, always busy around the yard of her little home on Commercial St.; especially was she interested in the appearance of her premises in the spring and fall, raking off and burning the leaves in the fall and the dead grass in the spring. One of her hands was paralyzed and this she always had wrapped, these bandages catching fire she tried repeatedly to extinguish it with her able hand. The fire, however, spread to her clothing and in a short time she was enveloped in flames. Her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Parcells, succeeded in putting out the fire but not until her body from the waist down was a mass of burned flesh. The doctor held out no hope of recovery for her from the first. Thursday night she became unconscious, gradually sinking until Friday, shortly afternoon she passed away. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Maggie Pierce and two grandsons. The funeral was held from the First Reformed Church Sunday afternoon. Rev. R. R. Back made a most appropriate talk. Burial was made in the Isely Cemetery.
