He was buried at Old Fairview, Rev. Flickinger preaching the funeral sermon. Father Lyman was probably the oldest person in our township, being almost 94 years old when he died. He saw this century begin and lived almost to the end of it. He loved to talk about the exciting times of the presidential election of Gen. Jackson to the presidency. When your correspondent told him about the Johnstown calamity a few days after it happened, his strong memory went back to his younger days and described every turn of the fatal river and told how they used to drill there with militia. He was very industrious. The neighbors here recollect how a few years ago when he could not do a day's work anymore he made himself useful by going from farm to farm with a lot of steel traps and caught gophers. We all gladly gave him another bounty in addition to what the county gave, and we find since his visits ceased gophers have increased. His five children and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren in sadness followed him to his grave. This is the third funeral in this neighborhood in the month of January.
