She came to New York State with her parents at the age of three years. From there they moved to Cleveland, Ohio and then to Waverly, Ohio. They also lived in Illinois. She was made motherless at the age of 13. In August 1855, she with her father, came to Kansas (Padonia). In February 1856 she was married to Henry Schmitt at Oregon, Missouri. They drove from Padonia to Oregon with a team of oxen. To this union 5 sons were born, Fred, John, Henry, David and Mike. David and John preceded their mother in death. There are eighteen grand children, thirty great grand children and two great great grand children. In the early pioneer days some 60 years ago, she with her husband entered into a vital relationship with Christ her Savior and united with the Evangelical Church with which she held loyal membership till death.
