A lifetime McPherson County resident, he was a farmer and mail carrier. He belonged to the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom; American Legion Post No. 24, McPherson; Rural Mail Carriers Association, Kansas State Historical Society; and was a former member of USD 444 School Board. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 28, 1954, he married Bonnie Beth Brown. She died July 18, 1994. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda K. She was an active participant in civic life, as she was a member and officer of the following: Business and Professional Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Republican Women's Club, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a 65-year member of Family Consumer Education Clubs and she was a member of the congregation of the Heritage United Methodist Church. She loved investigating her family's history, particularly her Irish roots. Her mother, Mamie McCrea, was born in a sod house on the prairie in Lane County, KS. She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and baker of pies, and she spent countless hours helping young people as a 4-H leader. A 1935 graduate of Wichita East High Scholl, she attended Wichita University. Mrs. Fisher lived near Benton in Butler County, KS, for almost 40 years before moving to Overland Park. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou; her husband Marlin "Bud" Fisher; and two sisters, Beulah Bare and Vera Darter. Johns, Walter H. 4-10-1912 11-13-2005 b. OK Woodward co, d.
