Approximately 180 persons – friends and relatives from far and near – showered the couple with gifts of flowers and other mementoes, and more than 150 cards and letters further attested their popularity. Mrs. Austin wore for the occasion an ensemble of gray wool and at her shoulder was a gold throated lavender orchid. The former Myrtle McMurry and Mr. Austin were married on January 31, 1915, near Burrton in the home of the bride’s mother. “Cattle people from away back,” Mr. and Mrs. Austin early in their marriage started ranching in Texas and New Mexico. Victimized by the “dust bowl” era and later droughts, at length they returned to Butler county some 30 years ago, living at various times in the Leon and Towanda communities, and for the past 20 years in the Rosalia community. With two of the sons, James Austin of Rosalia and Neil Austin of Severy, Mr. Austin is engaged in the production of pure-bred Shorthorn cattle. Mr. and Mrs. Austin hold membership in the Rosalia Methodist Church and are active in its affairs. Their eight children all are living and all are established with families. Arrangements of golden chrysanthemums were used on the buffet.
