C. Ades will Reach 80th Year, 30th Mrs. H. C. Ades, of Leon, R1, will celebrate her 80th birthday anniversary Sunday, August 30th. She has been ill the past several months and hasn’t been feeling up to par, but we are glad to report she is much better and enjoys eating again. Mrs. Ades, born Arminta Robison on Aug. 30, 1884, at Oswego, Kansas, and was married March 30, 1904 at Oswego, to Harley Clifford Ades, a nephew of one of the earliest settlers at Quito and Keighley. They have spent all their married life in Butler county. Mrs. Ades is the mother of nine children, all of whom are living – five daughters and four sons. All but a daughter, Jane Riggs, live in Kansas, and she resides on R5, Huntsville, Ark. She has 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. All of her grandchildren except 4, also reside in Kansas. Mrs. Ades makes her home on Route 1 with her son Bruce. She loved to keep house when she was able and look after her family. One of her hobbies was the raising of beautiful flowers and of these she had many. Another hobby in which she was interested was the collection of plates. She has plates from all over the U.S., Germany and Korea. She used to like to piece quilts, but those days are gone for her forever now, but she is still vitally interested in the current events of today. For years Mrs. Ades was the writer of the Keighely items for the News and up until a few weeks ago, sent in a few now and then, whenever her health permitted. Some beautiful cards would be appreciated by this lovely shut-in who will appreciate any remembrance.
