F. Balwanzes are to Note Golden Anniversary February 23 Mr. and Mrs. Lewis F. Balwanz, residents here for 37 years, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house reception on Sunday, February 23, in their home at 418 North Topeka, their residence since 1931. Friends and relatives are invited to call between the hours of 2 and 5 o’clock in the afternoon. The celebrants have requested that there be no gifts. Lillie Fugate and Lewis Balwanz were married on February 22, 1914, in the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fugate of Bartlesville, Okla. Rev. Ella Thorpe performed the ceremony. The couple moved in 1927 to El Dorado where Mr. Balwanz allied himself with the oil industry. He remains active in his chosen career on a part-time basis, working at times for Rex and Morris Drilling Company, the R. P. Baker Drilling Company and R. J. Wixson, oil producer. Mr. and Mrs. Balwanz are the parents of one son, Clarence A. Balwanz, who, with Mrs. Balwanz and their children, Beverly and Robert of Prairie Village, will be hosts for the open house reception. The junior Mr. Balwanz is general superintendent of the Gas Service Company for Kansas City, Kansas. Both Mr. and Mrs. Balwanz are active in affairs of the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Balwanz has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1926 – a period of 38 years – and is a past matron. Mr. Balwanz is a long-time member of the Patmos Lodge No. 97, A.F. & A.M. and also holds membership in the Wichita Consistory. Both Mr. and Mrs. Balwanz enjoy excellent health and have retained to a marked degree the spirit and buoyancy of youth. They are anticipating with great pleasure receiving their many friends at their golden anniversary reception on Sunday, February 23.
