Adams, cashier of the Walnut Valley State bank, has been honored by his fellow Jaycees with the award of outstanding young man of the year. This is a distinguished title richly earned and well bestowed. Mr. Adams, as a young business figure, has thoroughly established himself in the commercial, social and civic life of this community. He is president of the Kiwanis club, an active member of the United Fund board of directors and discharges responsibilities in other fields – including his Trinity Episcopal church. He is a trusted and efficient officer in the bank with which he is affiliated – and has rooted himself firmly in the high regard of this town. Mr. Adams is the twelfth young man to receive this honor – and all of the eleven others have firmly located themselves in public esteem as dependable and valuable citizens. In order, these are: Clifford Stone, Sam Roberson, Richard Carter, Tim Aley, Lynn Lawrence, John Prigmore, Stanley Dial, Clay Riley, Rev. James F. Clark, Jim Clennan and Al Diller. The young men coming along successfully in their chosen professions constitute the backbone of future promise for this, or any other town. Fortunately, El Dorado always has had a number of youngsters, trained and ready to take over the places of the old leaders as these drop by the wayside. It is good to see Gene Adams receive the honor that has come to him – an award which honors as well the Jaycees who gave it.
