Died, April 26, Amos Adams of Plum Grove township, aged 61 years. This end has been foreseen by the family and friends for several weeks past. Mr. Adams has been in poor health for several years but has failed rapidly during recent months. Amos Adams was born in Fulton county, Illinois, February 25, 1843. He grew to manhood there. He enlisted in Co. H., 151 Illinois Infantry. After the war, in October 1886, he came with his bride to Kansas to the Whitewater settling on the homestead upon which he has resided continuously and where he died. His early experiences were common to pioneers. The buffalo were only 25 miles away and often drifted over on the Whitewater near his cabin. Deer, antelope, wolves, wild turkeys, prairie chickens and other game was so plentiful as to have little value. He and his good wife endured many privations, yet lived happily to see Kansas, Butler County and the immediate vicinity of their home develop from the “plains” and “the desert” to a land of plenitude and all the comforts and luxuries of civilization. On the homestead so dear to them were born their only son, John Bunyan Adams, Mrs. M. E. Ball of Belle Plain; Mrs. Wm. McGill, Mrs. Clarence King, and Miss Rectina Adams of Potwin. Mr. Adams was an unassuming man, an honest one, a kind husband, loving father, good citizen, loyal friend, helpful neighbor. He was for many years a Mason holding membership at Whitewater. The funeral occurs tomorrow, April 27, at the family home a half mile west of Potwin, at 4:00 p.m. Several friends from El Dorado will be present.
