Grandma, as she was known by everybody, was a land mark, occupying the same farm since the earliest settlers recollect. Her husband died years ago leaving her alone with the exception of a small grandson who has since grown to manhood. Mr. and Mrs. Marvel Kelly have lived in the house with Mrs. Hayes for the past two years. She was remarkably well preserved for one of her years, having scarcely any gray hairs and very active, able to do her housework, children raising and gardening up to within a few days before her death. Grandma Hayes was a zealous Christian woman, being a member of the home department of the Brownlow Sunday school for the past few years. She will be missed by the entire community for in her death a desirable friend and neighbor is lost. But in the home the keenest loss is felt for a dear and loving mother. The funeral was held from the family home March 29 and the body was laid to rest beside her husband in Fowler cemetery. Mrs. Marvel Kelly is very ill with measles. Special mention is due Mrs. I. T. Foster for her kindly care during the sickness and death of Grandma Hayes. Mrs. Foster waited on and cared for her old sick friend almost day and night for about ten days.
