She was a devoted mother and affectionate wife, the mother of nine children all of whom survive her except one son. The was loved and respected and her friends and neighbors sincerely mourn her. Lucinda Barrett was born in Indiana in 1848 was married to Matthew Makin in 1867, came to Kansas in 1871 and has since resided in Chase and Butler counties.
