W. Beers of Leon informed the Leon News that her grandmother, Mrs. Nora Schooley, 74, of Latham, is in a serious condition in St. Francis hospital suffering from injuries received in a car accident Saturday around noon. She suffered a badly broken arm and severe shock and underwent surgery Monday to set the broken arm. Mrs. Schooley was riding in a car with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Schooley and three others, and were returning home from Culbertson mortuary where they had been to view the body of her son, Oscar J. Schooley, 58, of Wichita, whose funeral was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. that afternoon at Culbertson’s. Mrs. Schooley was the only one injured in the accident and no details were learned of the details of the crash. Mr. Schooley died Wednesday, January 29, 1964. he was born Feb. 24, 1905 at Latham, and was employed as a truck driver for the Wichita Eagle. He had previously lived in Winfield and had gone to Wichita in 1959. He was a member of the St. Luke’s Methodist church in Wichita. He is survived by his widow, Bertha of the home, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis J. Brooks, of Liberal; two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Nora Schooley of Latham, a sister, Mrs. Mattie Parker, Winfield; and a brother, J. Bert Schooley, Wichita.
