Mrs. Smith and her six-year-old daughter, Mary Alice, were crossing West Central Avenue directly in front of the Allen Memorial Hospital at the time of the accident. Mary Alice was only slightly injured. Mrs. Smith and her daughter were on their way to visit Mrs. Smith's father, Grant Kennedy, a patient at the hospital, when the accident occurred. She sustained a fractured skull and lower jaw bone was rushed into the hospital, where she failed to regain consciousness. She had not rallied at any time and little hope for her recovery was held from the first. The car in which Mrs. Smith had been riding was parked headed east and on the south side of West Central Avenue directly in front of the entrance to the hospital. She and her daughter had left the car and were started across the street to the north when the accident occurred. Mrs. Storey's car was headed west. Three sons, Boyd, Frank and Benny Smith and Jim Reed and Gilbert Currie accompanied Mrs. Smith and Mary Alice. Lived Here All Life The Towanda woman was born August 27, 1889, in Butler County and had lived in this county all of her life, with residences in the Towanda, Cassoday and El Dorado Communities. She was married to Benoni Richard Smith on January 22, 1912, in El Dorado. Mr. Smith died February 10, 1936. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Ratts, and Evelyn Smith of El Dorado and Mary Alice of Towanda; three sons, Boyd, Frank, and Benny, all of Towanda. Two children, Thelma and Bruce are deceased. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. James Smock of Caldwell, and Mrs. Harry Leedy of Hamilton; one brother, Frank Kennedy, Grant Kennedy of El Dorado and two grandchildren, Jimmy Gean and Richard Paul Ratts, of El Dorado. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Byrd Funeral Home with Rev. F. W. Condit officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery. Additional Comments: The date of this obit is November 4, 1934 but yet said her husband died in 1936. I believe that was her son possibly and that her husband died in 1928. West Cemetery is now a part of Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
