He was born June 26, 1839, at Columbus, Ohio. Early in the civil war he enlisted in the 3rd Ohio Infantry (Co.------) and served three years; was captured at the battle of Stone River and was a prisoner in Libby prison many months. In 1863 he married Amanda Colvin and came to Butler county in 1870. Two children, both now dead, were born to this marriage. The mother died in ’80. In ’83 in Ohio he married Elizabeth Soule returning to El Dorado where they have since resided. His wife survives him. He was a member of the G. A. R. of the Odd Fellows and for many years of the M.E. Church. Mr. Welch was respected as a thoroughly honest man. The funeral will be held Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. at the family home.
