Baxter Springs Man is Killed by Train George W. Ruston [Huston], 77, Struck by Kansas City Southern Freight at Street Crossing. Baxter Springs, Kan, Nov 6 - [1944] George W. Huston, 77 years old, 809 West Avenue, died at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Freeman Hospital in Joplin after being struck by a Kansas City Southern freight train while walking across a crossing on Eight and West Avenue at 11:30 o'clock that morning. The train was going north when it struck Huston. Mr Huston was taken to the office of a physician for first-aid treatment and later removed to the hospital in a Hoskins ambulance. He suffered a compound fracture to his left arm and chest injuries. In Baxter 40 Years Mr. Huston was born in Orange, Ohio and married Frances Jane Dew in 1900. He had lived in Baxter Springs 40 years, coming here from Tiff City, Missouri. He was a member of the Assembly of God church. He worked as a farmer. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sarah June [Jane] Hanby [Handley] of California and Mrs. Anna May McGuire of Galena; three sons, Ben Huston of the home, James Huston, 817 West Avenue, and Corporal John W. Huston, serving with the armed forces in France, and a brother, Basil Scott Huston of Anderson.
