He left here about three months ago for Camp Cody, and from there was transferred to Camp Dix. He had been here only a few days when he was stricken. Roy would of been 24 years of age September 20th. He leaves an aged mother, four brothers, Jim, Jeff, Elmer, and Cal, and four sisters, Minnie, Stella, Blanche and Elva, who, with their families were all present at the funeral. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist church, September 22, conducted by Rev. Deerfelt of Galena. Ray had united with this church a few years ago, when Rev Deerfelt was pastor. It was the largest funeral ever held at this place. It was estimated that one thousand people were present to show their respect to our neighbor and soldier boy.
