Mary A. Abbott was born in Wayne Co., Kentucky, Jan 12, 1832. She died after a short illness, at her home south of Columbus, Feb. 6, 1914, aged 82 years and 22 days. She was married to James Sizemore in 1851. To this union were born two sons, A.G. Sizemore, of Reno, Okla., and W.R. Sizemore, who has resided on the old homestead near his mother since his father's death. Mrs. Sarah Keith, Mrs. Andrew Dolyns who departed this life Aug 20, 1887, Mrs. Grant Davis who also passed beyond Feb 27, 1913, Mrs. L.L. Dean of Columbus and Miss Myrtie, who resided with her mother and did so much to make the waning years of her mother's life full of comfort and peace. She also leaves to mourn her loss 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She, with her husband and children, came to Cherokee county from DeKalb Co., Ala., and located in their present home, where she has resided for almost 38 years. Mr. Sizemore preceded her into the Glory World, he having died March 22, 1892. Grandma Sizemore was a devout Christian woman. She was converted at the age of 18, and had remained firm in the faith and trust of her Savior, through all the cares, ill health and vicisiousness of motherhood in the pioneer days of Kansas. Having been in failing health for several years past, her Bible was her unfailing comfort and guide. The funeral was preached from the home, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8, 1914, at 1 o'clock, by Rev. Goodrick. In losing Grandma Sizemore her children have lost a devoted mother, the community a kindly neighbor, who was never heard saying nothing but good of anyone, also one who in her quiet, unassuming way, did what she could to make her neighborhood a more desirable and better fitted place for those she left behind. Her heart was also and open door and there was sufficient room around her hearthstone for the stranger and the unfortunate. To the bereaved ones I would say much comfort will come to you, and you may exalt her life by emulating the simple Christlike spirit which she possessed. "A precious one from us has gone, A voice we love is stilled. A vacant place within th home, Which never can be filled. Yet we would not call her back, From that bright world above, Where we to her may also go, if we but emulate her life of charity and love."
