The Kansan – March 31, 1960
Mrs. W. L. Giroux, well known Concordia resident, died at St. Joseph’s 
hospital about seven o’clock Tuesday morning. She was 77 years old. Mrs. 
Giroux was taken ill on Friday and was taken to the hospital on Saturday after 
suffering a stroke.
Mrs. Giroux, whose maiden name was Eva Marie Peltier, was born March 27, 1883 
at Marieville, Canada, daughter of Michel and Margaret Peltier. She came with 
her parents to Kansas when she was six months old and the family located in 
Buffalo Township. Her marriage to W. L. Giroux took place in Bromptonville, 
Canada, January 31, 1905. They returned to Kansas in 1906 and lived on a farm 
in Buffalo Township until 1944, when they moved to Concordia. Mr. and Mrs. 
Giroux observed their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary in January this year. 
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and the St. Ann and the 
Altar Society of the church.
Surviving are her husband and these children: Alphonse, Mrs. John Malmquist, 
Ed, and Mrs. Bedford Malmquist, of Concordia; Joe, of Derby Colo.; and Mrs. 
Albert Hubert, of Concordia. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and three 
sisters: Mrs. Delphos Bonneau and Mrs. Frem Bonneau, of Concordia, and Sister 
Peters, of the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph, who lives in Herington.
Funeral services were held this morning, (Thursday, March 31) at 9 o’clock, at 
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and burial took place in the Catholic 
cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Giroux: Ivan Giroux, Norman 
Giroux, Francis Giroux, Gerald Giroux, James Peltier and Harold Marmquist.
