Frank Butler, who died on the 5th inst., was born Jan. 17th, 1841, at Martinsville, Indiana, and on August 22, 1867, was married to Genora J. Vandolah, of McLean county, Illinois. There was born to them six children, of whom three survive him. In April, 1867, he removed to Leroy, Kansas, where he was engaged in merchandising for about two years in connection with his brother, Hon. C. B. Butler. In March 1872, he moved to his farm on Owl Creek, two miles from Yates Center, and has been a resident of this county since that time. He was a soldier during the war of the rebellion, having first enlisted in Company K, 5th artillery in August 1861, from which he was discharged August 1864. He subsequently enlisted at Green- castle Ind., and in a company raised by Capt. Morrison. He was appointed Corporal June 1st, 1863. At the battle of Antietam he received a severe wound. He served this county in the legis- lature of 1873. As a town we will miss him more than almost any other one man, he being largely interested in property here and having been one of the founders of the place and its most zealous advocate. Pleasant and agreeable with his acquain- tances, kind, charitable and liberal with all, he made many friends and there are none to cherish an unkind word of him and all feel a deep warm sympathy for the widow and children to whom will always be given the same courtious, kindly recog- nition, the husband and father were won't to be- stow upon others. He was buried at Leroy, on the 7th inst., by the Masonic Lodge of Yates Center, assisted by the members of the Leroy, Neosho Falls and Burlington Lodges. Requiescat in Pace.
