Elizabeth Johnson DEMERITT, was born at Herfordshire, England, November 6, 1862. She came with parents, Benjamin and Ellen Powell JOHNSON, at the age of 9 and settled in Ohio a few years, later coming to Wakefield, Kan. In 1889 she was united in marriage to William Albert Demeritt. To this union were born 8 children. Two sons have preceded her in death. Aubrey died at the age of 4 and Everett was killed in action in World war I. Her husband died June 20, 1941. The surviving children are Leslie J., Richland, Kan.; Fred E., Richland, Kan.; Hattie DOTSON, Wichita, Kan.; Nelllie SMART, Mt. Rainier, Md.; Gilbert J., of Moran; ALbert B., of Savonburg; and also 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. One brother, and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn her passing. In her youth she joined the Presbyterian church and has remained a faithful member. The last 2 years she had been in failing health and died at Neodesha, Kan., August 14, 1943. December 25, 1939 with her husband and children she celebrated her golden wedding anniversary at Moran, Kan.
