William Thomas STOUT was born January 30, 1861 at Brunswick House, Boston, England, and died Juy 19, 1943, at his home, 1145 Emery road at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 19 days. When he was ten years of he came to America with his parents, three sisters and one brother. They came directly to Leavenworth county, Kansas settling on a farm for a period of years and later moved to where his father was one of the founders, and later president of the bank of McLouth. In 1882 he married Leona MILLER and they engaged in fruit farming for a period of years. While doing this they both studied for the ministry and later became ordained minister in the church of the Brethren. In 1903 Mr. Stout, with his wife and daughter, moved to Lawrence, where for a time he was engaged in the furniture business as well as evangelistic work. In 1918 he accepted a position as manager of the drugs and dispensing departments of the school of bio-chemistry and pharmacy at Kansas University, which place he filled until six weeks before his death. On May 26 of this year he took the civil service examination and passed it. For the past 39 years he had been a member of the First Methodist church of Lawrence, always in attendance, unless illness prevented, and which he served to the best of his ability. A fine, kindly gentleman and true Christian has gone to his reward. The funeral service was held in the First Methodist church, with Dr. O.E. Allison in charge, assisted by Dr. Edward Hislop of Topeka. Miss Meribah MOORE sang two beautiful numbers, which were favorites of his, "The Lord is My Shepherd," by Mallott, and "In My Father's House Are Many Mansions," by McDermid. Mr. Stout is survived by his wife, his daughter, Mrs. George LOWMAN; and by three sisters, Mrs. Annie STEEPER, Miss Gertrude Stout, and Mrs. Walter BRADFORD, all of McLouth. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/douglas/obits/s/stout583gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
