W. H. McKay, age 50, Throws Himself in Front of Locomotive

Monday forenoon, Wm. McKay of Longton, laid down on the Santa Fe track in that 
city and was almost literally ground into small bits.  He walked ahead of the 
train till it came near to him and then deliberately laid down on the track.  
The engineer put on all brakes but could not stop before the locomotive had 
passed over him.  The body was unrecognizable but the identity was established 
by a lodge dues receipt and parts of clothing.

McKay was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andy McKay of Longton, was past 50 years of 
age, and was born in that community.  He is survived by his wife from whom he 
has been separated for some time, one daughter, besides his aged parents and 
several brothers and sisters. He had been drinking to excess for some days, in 
fact had been a hard drinker more or less regularly for years.  He left a note 
which stated briefly that no one was to blame but himself.
